Alex Buko is our Chef Manager at Keystone of Eagan. Alex loves his role as Chef because as he says, “It’s all about the people…what they like to eat, their visiting, and hearing their laughter during the mealtimes.” He knows each one of them personally. He works hard each day to create delicious, fun and entertaining dining experiences for the residents.
He is a graduate from Le Cordon Bleu School of Culinary Arts Institute. He also attended the University of Minnesota and majored in Biology. He has an interesting background as he came from Kenya and worked hard and made a life for himself. He became interested in the food service industry while attending the University of Minnesota.
While attending college he was employed part time at a restaurant. He watched how the cooks worked and he became very excited about working with food and loved seeing that when you make a meal for others you have a wonderful opportunity to serve people and make them happy. One of the Chef’s he worked with encouraged him a lot so he discontinued going to the University and became enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu.
Alex is originally from Kenya. He comes from a small tribe called Kisii. He speaks three languages, Kisii being his native tongue, Swahili and also English. He came to the United States in 1987. His early years as a young student in America were very difficult. He lived quite a long way from the college so he had to walk many miles each way to attend class. While in college he made many good friends and met his wife Janet. They have been married for 17 years. They have one son named Alex Jr.
