Mike Lewis is a founding member of Keystone Communities, LLC, a privately held company that develops and manages senior housing communities throughout Minnesota.  As the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Mike’s primary responsibilities are in the financial, legal and development feasibility aspects of the company.  He also works on resident issues, such as coordinating Elderly Waiver and Group Residential Housing—subsidy programs available to low-income seniors.  In addition, Mike works on human resource issues, including Unemployment and Workers’ Compensation claims. 

Mike has been developing affordable and market rate senior housing for twelve years, using HUD, Freddie Mac, and Section 42 federal tax credits, as well as conventional financing programs.  Prior to Keystone Communities, Mike was VP of Development for MSP Real Estate, a Minneapolis-based company that develops affordable rental and senior housing in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Mike has extensive experience in site selection, buyer negotiation and the city approval process.

Mike’s experience prior to development includes practicing in the areas of real estate law, appraisal and counseling.  Upon graduating law school, Mike worked in the Consulting Group at Eberhardt Company, a commercial real estate concern whose primary business was commercial mortgage brokerage.  While at Eberhardt, Mike represented tenants and landlords in lease negotiations, and worked with municipalities and developers, analyzing and presenting project feasibility.

Mike’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature from College of the Holy Cross and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law, as well as continuing coursework in law, appraisal, finance and brokerage.

Mike, his wife Susan, and their family have lived in Edina, Minnesota for ten years.
